Doris Englund was born Doris Ellen Dahlin on June 23, 1928 in Brocket, ND to Harry and Elizabeth (Fifer) Dahlin. Orphaned at age 10 and with the family split, Doris lived among relations until her teens when she found a stable home with her uncle and aunt, Wilber and Ema Fifer, in Brocket. After high school, Doris attended Mayville Teacher’s College and taught for several years in rural North Dakota schools, often 3 and 4 grades at once. She married Verne G. Oaks on June 16, 1950 in Brocket. They moved frequently for several years as Verne was employed stringing telephone lines in the 5-state area. Upon Verne’s sudden death in 1959, Doris moved to Saint Cloud, MN seeking better educational opportunities for her children. She married Maurice Englund, an engineer with Communications Consultants, out of Fargo, North Dakota, June 15, 1963. Doris worked for many years at Fandel’s Department Store in Saint Cloud and also worked for Weight Watchers for 35 years, many of those years as location coordinator of the Waite Park location. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Doris was a kind and gentle person who was very focused on her family. She was always supportive, encouraging and very proud of her family. Doris is survived by her husband, Maurice, children Michael Oaks (Debbie) and Lori Bahe (Joel), grandchildren Lisa and Thomas Oaks, Jared, Bailey (fiancé Jerry Anderson) and Nick (fiancé Sabrina Erickson) Bahe, great-granddaughters Arianna and Riley Anderson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Verne, parents Harry and Elizabeth Dahlin, foster parents Wilbur and Ema Fifer, brothers Stanley and Howard Dahlin and Harry Stowell, sisters Helen Hauck and Dorothy Oihus and infant grandson Jason Bahe.
